Fin Whale close-up

There was discussion of taking the carcass out to sea but it would have been too risky considering current ocean conditions.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept. decided today to bury the body at the beach.

Uuuuups, another baby ...

The family is still growing ... another friggn' bike! This is my comuter bike. It won't have any cleat pedals so I can ride it to the coffee shop, on da beach, for shopping or just cruisin' around in town. Hey, and it is muuuuuuuuuuuuch cheaper AND so much quieter than a baby.

Ready to ride. It will get a few extra color parts to make it look unique. The bike shop here in town, Bicycles 101 in Florence Oregon is the best bike shop on the Oregon Coast. Tim the owner has always sweet deals and a large selection. Wanna deal? Call him at 541 - 997 7440 or visit his web site at bicycles101.net

Stranded Fin Whale

Stranded young Fin Whale north of Florence just below Heceta Head Lighthouse, about 40 Ft (12 Meter) in lenght.

A marine research team was cutting off pieces of the baleen from the dead whale.

The Fin whale  is a Baleen whale and is the second largest whale and also the second largest animal currently living on this planet. Their average length is 70 feet for males and 82 feet (25 Meter) for females. They weigh up to 140 tons but average 80 tons. Birth length is 20-22 feet and weigh about 2 tons and are the fastest large whales. Max speed is about 23 Mph (37 Km/h).

White shit from above. Murray in Newfieland, can't you keep that stuff for yourself? I don't have no Zamboni ...

Now you see why I'm not riding my bicycle lately.

I used to be strong once. They didn't let me play in the fast pitch girly softball team so I went skiing instead. This was 1979, 30 years ago. How time flies maaaaannnn!!!!

Our Trophy

They couldn't fit either of "Not Sensible", "Newfie Softballers", or "Neanderthal Skulls" so they had to settle for the engraving above!
No Sex? C'mon ... we're all male!

Murray's NS Team

I "Groused" for Murray's NS Team and came up with these shots:

Cheers!

First (real) road bike...

My first real road bike was only eight years ago... this pic is dated October 21, 2001. The little sign says "5000km", which, given our short season, I was pretty proud of. This was before the responsibilities of kiddies (which I wouldn't trade) and maybe someday my mileage will hit that number again. This is a "Small" giant OCR2, which I still use on the trainer. The only other road bike I had was bought as a teenager - a 60cm Raliegh I got on sale... way too big, but I didn't know the difference. Crashed that bike in a one-on-one with a transport truck. I figure that even though I used my face for brakes, was knocked unconscious and had short-term amnesia, I still won that fight... after all, I"m still here, and still ridin'!
Cheers,

Many sports ago...

Maybe Sepp is in this photo... and maybe not. The Grouser you know has an arm on the grass...This is a pic of a province-wide championship fast pitch softball team, circa 1990. How time flies. I used to be fast once, without the help of a bike!
Cheers,
UtilityGrouse
PS. What do you think the "NS" stood for??? ;-)

Wo ist Sepp - where's Sepp?

another day - another ride

View from the Siuslaw Bridge looking West towards the ocean.

View while drinking a large Latte (4 espressos with steamed milk). That should get me going.

Switzerland, many mountains ago ...

In 1989, on the same trip I got to ride a sweet mountain bike in the Rocky Mountains while I was visiting a pro hockey player I knew from Switzerland. Back home I bought my first MTB. 20 years later, still riding plus grousing - thanks to Bro Murray!
